![]() So I am looking for something straight forward. I am not young and technically sophisticated, although when I was I bought the first Mac introduced in 1984. I would like to do a slow transition of hardware and software over the next year since it is not a cheap or trouble free step. I need to get Mojave that is the intermediate OS between 32 bit and 64 bit systems. There may be some other older software I am using that is 32 bit based that will not function on OS 10.15. I am also still using Quicken 2007 that supposedly will not operate on Catalina or newer OS from Mac. The 2020 version of TurboTax will not operate on OS 13 and needs Mojave 10.14 or newer. 2020) my Mac Mini (late 2012) is running High Sierra 10.13.6. Neat stuff if you twiddle the knobs a lot.Īn interesting note for people who what to try this: To get the true electrical effect of the '50s wiring, all you need to do is move the tone cap connection from the first lug of the volume pot to the middle lug of the volume pot. On the '50s wiring the tone control remains constant on the output signal because it's after the volume control.Īlso, in the '50s wiring, the with the selector switch in the middle position, the tone controls are always directly in parallel, so they're more interactive with each other. With the modern wiring, the tone control setting provides the same loading on the pickup because it's before the resistive element of the volume pot. Where the '50s wiring comes into play is when you start twiddling the knobs. With everything on "10", there's no electrical difference. The effect this has is that the tone control is "before" the volume control on the modern wiring, and the tone control is "after" the volume control on the '50s wiring. The '50s wiring has the tone controls connect to the middle lug of the volume pot. To make it clear what the '50s wiring actually accomplishes, it's as simple as this: modern wiring has the tone controls connect to the first lug of the volume pot. I hope that this helps your decisions for your guitar. Voltage rating of a cap in a guitar circuit is of no account. The cheap caps can make the guitar sound ever so slighly out of tune no matter what you do as the harmonics are not exactly in tune with the fundamental. A good cap seems to roll off the harmonics in such a a way that the "chord" produced by the fundamental and harmonic and undertones are all in tune with each other. Ceramics sound better than polyester-film (greencaps found in most cheaper guitars), and probably not quite as good as paper in oils but the difference is less pronounced. Model definitely, paper in oils and orange drops sound better than polyester-film. Value: Higher values roll off more highs. You can hear the difference between caps with the tone control on 10, definitely (the tone control variable impedance as at its maximum on 10). If you turn one volume right down in the middle pickup selectr position then there is no output. The 50s wiring (as I did it) did not lead to independant volume controls. I found that could be true as when I shielded the control cavities with self stick copper foil and connected all that to ground the guitar sounded slightly muddier than I remembered it, so I removed the shielding tape and the sound was back to normal. I have also read that shielding affects the capicitance of the circuit, correct me if I'm wrong. Removing the shielding plate seemed to make it also a little louder and clearer, I think because I could then run a wire from the pickup selector switch to the output jack unbroken, whereas with the shield there are two segments of wire used connected to a lug on the shielding plate. The 50s wiring alone made the guitar sound clearer to my ears. I connected the caps up 50s style (I.E from the middle of volume to the lower outer lugs of the tone pots). When I redid the wiring in my 87 Gibson LP standard (see avatar) and also my Epi LP100, I used braided wire cloth covered vintage style and removed the shielding plate. It is also used on the many notices sent to owners and taxpayers throughout the year. Once an instrument is received by the county for recording, the legal description is assigned to a parcel and is carried on all assessment and tax rolls. These forms of legal descriptions are labeled as metes and bounds descriptions. In many instances there is added language to further define the property by feet, links, chains and other types of surveying tools. Descriptions of these types can be quite lengthy as added language can define parcels to smaller areas within quarter-quarter regions. Additionally, parcels are defined by quarter-quarters or Government lots. Un-platted parcels are identified by the section, township and range in which they are located. A certification on the plat requres the signatures from the county auditor-treasurer that taxes have been paid in full. The padding character is not essential for decoding, since the number of missing bytes can be inferred from the length of the encoded text. (This is different from A, which means that the remaining bits are all zeros.) The example below illustrates how truncating the input of the above quote changes the output padding: The padding character is =, which indicates that no further bits are needed to fully encode the input. This means that when the length of the unencoded input is not a multiple of three, the encoded output must have padding added so that its length is a multiple of four. If there is only one significant input octet (e.g., 'M'), or when the last input group contains only one octet, all 8 bits will be captured in the first two Base64 digits (12 bits) the four least significant bits of the last content-bearing 6-bit block will turn out to be zero, and discarded on decoding (along with the succeeding two = padding characters):īecause Base64 is a six-bit encoding, and because the decoded values are divided into 8-bit octets, every four characters of Base64-encoded text (4 sextets = 4 × 6 = 24 bits) represents three octets of unencoded text or data (3 octets = 3 × 8 = 24 bits). ![]() If there are only two significant input octets (e.g., 'Ma'), or when the last input group contains only two octets, all 16 bits will be captured in the first three Base64 digits (18 bits) the two least significant bits of the last content-bearing 6-bit block will turn out to be zero, and discarded on decoding (along with the succeeding = padding character): Using those four decimal numbers as indices for the Base64 alphabet, the corresponding ASCII characters are TWFu. Those 8 octal digits can be split into pairs ( 23 26 05 56), and each pair is converted to decimal to yield 19 22 05 46. ![]() For example, the hexadecimal representation of the 24 bits above is 4D616E. Such conversion is available for both advanced calculators and programming languages. Hexadecimal to octal transformation is useful to convert between binary and Base64. = padding characters might be added to make the last encoded block contain four Base64 characters. Groups of 6 bits (6 bits have a maximum of 2 6 = 64 different binary values) are converted into individual numbers from start to end (in this case, there are four numbers in a 24-bit string), which are then converted into their corresponding Base64 character values.Īs this example illustrates, Base64 encoding converts three octets into four encoded characters.Įncoding of source characters M, a, n in Base64. These three values are joined together into a 24-bit string, producing 010011010110000101101110. Encoded in ASCII, the characters M, a, and n are stored as the byte values 77, 97, and 110, which are the 8-bit binary values 01001101, 01100001, and 01101110. In the above quote, the encoded value of Man is TWFu. Here is a well-known idiom from distributed computing: The more typical use is to encode binary data (such as an image) the resulting Base64 data will only contain 64 different ASCII characters, all of which can reliably be transferred across systems that may corrupt the raw source bytes. The example below uses ASCII text for simplicity, but this is not a typical use case, as it can already be safely transferred across all systems that can handle Base64. This is the Base64 alphabet defined in RFC 4648 §4. For instance, uuencode uses uppercase letters, digits, and many punctuation characters, but no lowercase. The earliest instances of this type of encoding were created for dial-up communication between systems running the same OS – for example, uuencode for UNIX and BinHex for the TRS-80 (later adapted for the Macintosh) – and could therefore make more assumptions about what characters were safe to use. Other variations share this property but differ in the symbols chosen for the last two values an example is UTF-7. ![]() For example, MIME's Base64 implementation uses A– Z, a– z, and 0– 9 for the first 62 values. This combination leaves the data unlikely to be modified in transit through information systems, such as email, that were traditionally not 8-bit clean. The general strategy is to choose 64 characters that are common to most encodings and that are also printable. The particular set of 64 characters chosen to represent the 64-digit values for the base varies between implementations.
